Dear Friends and Colleagues, Don't forget to join us via Zoom TODAY from 11am to 12 noon PT to learn how findings from the statewide Emergency Response Services Public Opinion Poll can be leveraged by communities across California to influence legislation. Register for the webinar here. Findings from a statewide Public Opinion Poll released by Public Health Advocates in late-May show that a large majority of registered California voters (88%) want major changes to the way police and other emergency services providers respond to 911 calls. In particular, registered voters think that law enforcement is least equipped to respond to calls about mental health crises (67%) and people who are homeless (49%), the situations voters say are most commonly in need of emergency response services. We will take a closer look at the data collection approach, the findings (what they do and don’t say), and how communities across California might be able to use the findings in their region. We will also review the current state of some emergency response policy proposals and what actions are being taken to address the identified needs. | | | |
